Switcherama is my new operating concept that is designed to give all operators a continuous running experience on the LVN. It is an alternative to the standard trains that are scheduled on the LVN and provides interest and variety for the operators at one session. Thirty-two strips of paper are created. OVGRS American Invasion

Annually the Ottawa Valley Garden Railway Society (OVGRS) opens it's doors to large scale modelers to come and run this point to point operating large scale railroad for three days.

Shelby Station and Crew Change

On the station track as Shelby there is about 6 inches to the wall. The backdrop creates depth to the scene and a natural transition from the layout to the horizon. The station is a walthers kit and there are 32 (little people) LPs from Preiser and Woodland Scenic. You can see some VIA cars on the storage track. They are from Rapido.

New SD40 for the LVN

Built from a Kato SD40. It was originaly painted for CN. Added scratch built sunshades and snow shields as well as detail parts such as horns, winterizaton hatch, rerailer, radio antennas, ditch lights. The decals came from S scale and G scale CDS letters for Central Vermont Box cars.

This first one shows Mike and Brian operating the wayfreight which handles a number of local industries on the LVN

The second shows some operations in Richmond Yard. This time saver switches 21 cars in and 21 out. The record at prototype speed is 1 hour 33 minutes.

Friday Night on the LVN

Lots of action on the LVN on Friday. Had 10 operators over. They were divided into teams of engineers and trainmen. The two hour operating session saw continuous action and by the looks on the faces of the folks below we all had a good time.

Here you can see Ron, Chris and James operating a NAR SD38-2, two BNSF SD70Macs and a leased CFX SD90 Mac through the classification yard. Modern operations include hauling coal, grain, mixed freight and intermondal.

LVN - Building Newby Chemicals

Newby Chemicals is a facing siding that is shared by a second facing siding to a team track open freight platform. Also there is a grain terminal facing with two tracks (5 car capacity). There is also a trailing siding which goes into a lumber yard. Newby Chemicals provides loading and unloading for a variety of products. Four tanks are modelled in the facility though there are pipes leading off the layout. Two of the tanks are for Chlorine (Cl) and two for Sulphur (S).

Ron and Dave are discussing the move to get the tank cars out of Husky oil. They have a couple of drop offs that are located on the oil can located in the classification yard.

There have been a few changes made to the LVN. The team track has now got a propane tank facility (Shelby sub gold). The parts distribution centre now is an open loading dock for transport trucks and the track beside it handles a chemical storage facility which includes chlorine and sulpher (Wainwright Sub blue). Also there is a built in timesaver in Richmond yard (Red).
